Dear competitor,

Thank you for your entry to the Cleveland Short Course Triathlon 2011. As many of you will know the event changed in 2009 to full Olympic or Standard distance with an extended swim and revised cycle and run routes. The 2011 event will follow the same format.

Located just outside the village of Scorton on the B6271. For details of the venue see www.ellertonpark.co.uk. We also have exclusive use of a camping field adjacent to the transition area. Camping is available for £4, booking not necessary, pay on arrival. The camping field is located on the left at the entrance to Ellerton Park. The rest of the site is restricted to caravans.

Car parking

Please using the designated parking area which will be signposted and marshalled at the entrance to Ellerton Lake. Continue through the camping area and park with consideration for others. Note the run route passes through the car park area and care should be taken not to hinder progress of competitors during the event. Ordinarily the car park and transition field is used by grazing livestock – DO NOT LEAVE ANY LITTER

Please position yourself accordingly with your swimming ability to allow faster swimmers and slower swimmers to race unhindered. Wet suits are compulsory. Swimming caps are optional and not provided. The race will start with the blast of a horn.

Race Maps

Maps of the Swim, Run and Bike Course can be found at www.clevelandtriathlon.co.uk/courses.html

Swim 1500m

The swim will take place in Ellerton Lake and will comprise 2 x anticlockwise laps. The route comprises the circumnavigation of 3 conspicuous buoys roughly in a triangular shape. At the end of the 2nd lap swim back to the start and proceed into the transition area. We are grateful to North Yorkshire Scouts for providing swim safety cover. Wetsuits are compulsory.

Bike 25 mile

The cycle route is one lap.

Make sure you fasten your helmet securely and then collect your bike from the transition area and proceed over the transition line with caution before getting on your bike. The route is undulating and potentially fast. Whilst the road surface is generally in good condition, do take care for occasional pot-holes. Do not unfasten your helmet until your bike is racked. Drafting will not be tolerated and motorcycle draft busters will be in force throughout the bike route. Familiarise yourself with the rules at http://www.britishtriathlon.org/uploads/files/Competition%20Rules%202006.pdf .

Race number must be worn on your back for this section. You may use a race belt if preferred.

Helmets must remain fastened unless your bike is racked.

Run 6 miles

The run route is out and back – 2 laps, approx 10k. At the furthest point of the run route turn round the traffic cone and run back towards transition. After returning turn round a further traffic cone near to the transition area and commence your 2nd lap. Ensure you cross the timing mat at the finish to record your time and position.

Race number must be on the front for the run section.

Drafting

Competitors should be aware a zero tolerance approach is given to those caught blatantly drafting. In accordance with BTA rules drafting is strictly forbidden throughout the bike course. The will be a number of motorcycle draft busters out on the course.

Please make sure you know and understand all BTF rules. www.britishtriathlon.org

Marshals

The cycle and run routes will be marshaled where possible and sign posted but it is recommended that you also study the course maps (website) to get a rough idea of the course. Remember it is your responsibility to negotiate the course correctly. Please be courteous and polite to the marshals, they are giving up their time voluntarily for the sake of your enjoyment.
