CLEVELAND TRIATHLON CLUB – MINUTES OF AGM 2011

Held at the Lingfield Pub Coulby Newham on November 23rd 2011

Chairman’s Report
This year has been a successful year for the club and membership has increased. If any members have any problems please raise them with the committee members. Thanks again to Kath and Sandra for all their work, without them the club would come to a halt. Thanks to Kath for all her hard work with our finances and Dick for keeping us on a straight path. We made a profit on most of our events. Thanks to all the organisers and marshals. Congratulations to everyone and keep up the good work.

President’s Report
Thanks to Kay, Tony, Stewart for all their work with the St Bedes sessions and Junior Section. Well done to Charlotte for becoming World Champion again this year. Thanks to Amanda McLeod for all her hard work on the web site and bringing the Relays into the 21 st Century online.

Secretary’s Report
The club has grown again this year and all the club events have had record amounts of competitors and been a great success. Our Saturday training sessions for adults and juniors are going well, especially the training duathlons that we have been running at the new Prisswick cycle circuit. We are hoping to run some earlier next year leading up to the triathlon season. I think 2012 will be even busier than this year with the build-up to the Olympics so plan your season and enter events early.

Treasurer’s Report
We have had a good year with a record amount of members. We have had a good income from our events.  However we do have some big bills outstanding, mainly pool costs which will come off next year’s accounts. The membership fees will come in during January so we should be okay. There were two small queries from Rob and Jonathan which Kath cleared up after the meeting.

Nomination of Officers
Last year’s committee members were all nominated again.
Members were asked to volunteer to join the committee.
Steve King was elected as a new committee member and has offered to organise club kit in 2012.
The other two committee members are Joe Foley and Andy Smith.

Events 2011
Sprint – Filled up quickly so enter early for 2012.Made a profit. Thanks to all the marshals and especially Amanda Waller.
Short Course – Ran okay. Filled up and had to close early again. Is anyone willing to organise it next year? Thanks to Sandra for all her help. Thanks to Kath and all the marshals. We had plenty of volunteers this year which was great. We had lots of good feedback.
Steelman.
This event was full by January this year so please enter early to avoid disappointment.
It is a good value for money event so this makes it very popular. Saying this we still made a good profit to put back into the clubs funds.
I spent hours early this year taking the event through a British Triathlon accreditation and I am pleased to tell you that we have been awarded two stars to go after our name.
Many thanks to the large team of helpers who work very hard to make this event a success
Kid’s Aquathlon – The second running at this venue and the feedback was good. We had the best goody bags and they went down well! We had a good representation from One Life as usual and for the first time this year we were joined by Hartlepool Swimming Club.
Our membership secretary also commented that when you join the club each year you must tell us which event that you are prepared to help at. One of our new members commented to her about how important it is for everyone to help. The new members were great and all joined in. Still some people slipped the net but she would not name and shame them this year! Thanks to all the marshals.
Relays – Second running of this event at Stokesley. We ran the swim last again due to pool restrictions and we will have to do this again next year. We had 35 teams this year and it went well. Thanks to all the marshals and especially Andy and Linda who cleared the bike course.

Swimming Update.
In July this year the Rainbow Centre altered its hours and we were no longer able to swim there on a Sunday. This was due to Council cut backs. Our Regional British Triathlon representative is contacting all the local councils because a lot of the Northern clubs are having the same problem.  We managed to persuade Total Fitness to let us use their pool from 5.30 until 6.30.The committee realise that this is not as central as Coulby Newham and some members are not prepared to travel there. I have now contacted Stokesley, Billingham, Thornaby and Eston; they are all either closed or booked already. SEM.

Comments –
How long have we paid for? –   12 weeks.
How many swimmers?   - Average of 20
We have increased the pool fee for the first time in 20 years just in case we don’t cover swim sessions.
Some members like it, some don’t.
Lane ropes are poor because they are not anti-turbulent.
Anti-turbulent lanes are expensive and difficult to handle.
SEM – to ask manger.
Suggestion to change the time or day but it would be difficult to find another slot especially when events start.
Suggestion to change back to Coulby Newham 4pm – 5pm – This was outvoted.
The majority voted to stay at Total Fitness for now until we could find something better.
It was felt that we have lost the social side of the session because there is no pub handy for after the swim. For now we are using the Roundel, Thornaby until we can find somewhere better.
The President summed up this discussion by saying that originally we started swimming in Acklam pool which has now been closed .The club still offers four swim sessions in different venue’s when you include the Saturday swim at St Bedes and our open water session in the summer at Ellerton Water Park.

Games Night – Dick agreed to organise a club games night in Tennis World Middlesbrough in January. The club will pay for the buffet. Details will be on the web site later this week.

Xmas Bike Ride- the date for this was agreed to be December 28th 2011
Details will be on the web site shortly.

Thanks –
Kath thanked all the people who help to collect the pool money this year.
Amanda Waller expressed how pleased and surprised she was to receive the Karl Knapp memorial trophy this year for all her years of hard work in the club.
Jonathan Quain thanked all the club coaches and committee members for all their hard work during in 2011 on behalf of all the club members.
