Robin Stocks a cyclist decided to organise an open water event in Cleveland in October 1982 after reading about an Ironman in Hawaii. These were the days before wetsuits and the water was a perishing 49* F, The course; 800 meter swim, 35 mile bike and a 10 mile run was completed by 13 hardy souls, not bad for the first local event of its kind.
In 1985 following the formation of Tyne Triathlon Club, Cleveland promoted another event now know as Cleveland Short Course. The entrance fee was £3 and that included prizes and food! From this point on Cleveland Triathlon club expanded into what it is today.
We welcome athletes of all abilities and all ages, we have coaches on hand to give you advice on how to get started and improve. We hold weekly bike rides meeting at the Fox Covert every Sunday at 10am; this usually includes a coffee stop! During the warmer months April to August we meet at Ellerton Water Park on a Tuesday 6pm for open water swim sessions, once again coaches will be on hand.
